SOMTUBE FTF - Drainage in road structure

A_IDRRIM
Marquage CE

Use

Water ingress in soil can damage the structures and jeopardise its durability. This is why it is important to use an appropriate and effective drainage solution.

SOMTUBE® FTF limits hydraulic underpressure when the groundwater is rising and prevents water infiltration into the structure. This solution is recommended for a number of applications :

  • Implementation of a draining mask
  • Implementation of drainage in road structure
  • Implementation of drainage in road structure on compressible soil
  • Implementation of drainage at the rear of mechanically stabilised earth backfill
  • Implementation of drainage under railways

For drainage in road structure and under railways, SOMTUBE® FTF replaces the traditional granular materials and geotextile filters system. It can also be used in flood-proof areas and compressible areas in addition to vertical drains.

For draining masks, SOMTUBE® FTF helps to stop water inflows on natural slopes or embarkments. It replaces the traditional granular draining materials and geotextile filters system.

For the rear drainage of mechanically stabilised earth backfill, SOMTUBE® FTF must be installed to discharge water at the interface between the technical embankment and the existing backfill. Depending on the structure’s construction arrangements (height of the wall, materials available, etc.) there are two possible installation methods for this product :

  • Installation from the bottom of the slope
  • Installation from the crest

Benefits

  • Enhance soil drainage performance
  • Ease of installation with a single product to unroll
  • Increased stability of the slope in the event of a draining mask application
  • Reduced movement of construction machinery on the work site
  • Reduction in construction and earthwork time
  • Material savings
  • Reduction of carbon footprint because the input of granular materials on site is avoided
  • An economical solution because the transport cost is significantly reduced

Projects completed with SOMTUBE FTF

Drainage and reinforcement on soft soil

Drainage and reinforcement on soft soil

Condé-Pommeroel Canal - Belgium - 110 000 m2
The enhancement of the canal's performances implicated the construction of deposits for the storage of non-aggressive sediments. To make the soils suitable, the solution used was a combination of drainage (SOMTUBE® FTF) and reinforcement (NOTEX® GX).

Stabilisation and drainage of eroded slopes

Mombasa airport - Kenya
1000 m2
To stabilise slopes and drain water in a context of torrential rain, the solution implemented was a combination of the SOMTUBE® FTF geocomposite with an earth retention system, ALVEOTER®.

RN6 - Zinguichor - Tanaff (Senegal)
188 000 m2
The rehabilitation of the RN6 national road, linking Zinguichor to Tanaff (116 km), is affected by rising groundwater from the Casamance river. The SOMTUBE® FTF geocomposite solution was implemented to effectively drain water from the soil.

RD22 - La Chapelle d’Armentières (59)
15 000 m2
During the construction of the RD22 road, soil was identified as compressible. To consolidate the ground, a solution combining vertical drains at a depth of 22 m with the SOMTUBE FTF draining geocomposite was selected.
